| My name is Christine Cash and I am a black belt with Les Elliott’s
Karate Academy.
I first heard about Karate in 1996 when my eldest daughter,
then 11, expressed interest in doing Karate as part of an activities
program at school.
She thoroughly enjoyed the experience and
joined Les Elliott’s karate club in November 1996. My
second daughter, then aged 9, followed in 1998 and insisted
that I stayed
and watched each lesson to support her.
After a year of watching
I decided that I could improve my fitness and get some exercise
by joining in, so in March 1999, three months before my 40th
birthday, I also started Karate.
What have I gained from Karate? Well, apart from the wanted
exercise and improved fitness, I have also gained enormously
in terms of self confidence and a wide range of friends of many
different ages.
I have competed in a number of state and national
competitions and gained many friends in other states – Karate
being a common interest.
Karate has also improved my coordination
and memory and has proved to be an ideal release for any tension
or stress generated through my job as a teacher. Through Karate I have also developed interests in the Martial
Arts associated with the study of the Japanese sword and have
started Iaido and Jodo as well as continuing with Karate.
